Each year, www.MetalStorm.ee, the European Metal Webzine (with more than 400,000 single visits and more than 34,000,000 hits each month) is proud to present the Metal Storm Awards. This year Pyramaze has been nominated for "BEST POWER METAL ALBUM 2008". If you feel that "Immortal" deserves to win the award, please go to http://www.metalstorm.ee/awards/categories.php?cat_id=15 and vote for us. The fans will have the last word!!
The new and improved Pyramaze myspace page is now online. It has been given a major facelift, and we hope you will all enjoy the new features. Check it out at myspace.com/pyramaze
We've decided to auction away our two Melancholy Beast stage banners. They are still as good as new, and they've been with us on stage at all pre-Immortal shows 2004 - 2007.
The biddings will take place in this thread. Should any of you wish to remain anonymous to other bidders, then please send your bid to: michael@pyramaze.com - I will then personally post the amount in the forum. Biddings will start at $200 (US Dollars, which is way less than we actually paid for them). Since there are two identical banners there can be two buyers. This means that the two largest amounts will "win" this auction.
The auction will end November 17th at 5 PM (17.00) CET
Despite the last two shows being cancelled because of complications with Volbeat singer Michael Poulsen's throat we have now successfully completed our mini-tour with Volbeat. It was a great pleasure playing the three shows in Copenhagen, Roskilde and Aarhus. We would like to thank all the people that showed up to support us and buy our merchandise and also a big thank you to Volbeat for bringing us on this (short) tour.
We will post tour pictures in the gallery shortly.
After auditioning some really good singers during the last couple of months, we have finally found a new band-brother -none other than singer extraordinaire Urban breed (ex-Tad Morose) has joined our ranks, and we are all very excited. Urban is well known for his powerful voice, stage presence and great diversity. We welcome Urban into the band, and we hope that our fantastic fans will approve of this choice too. Trust us when we say there's no one better to fill out the big shoes left by his predecessors. To those of you who do not know Urban yet, I would like to encourage you to check out the MP3's at the end of this announcement - this is just a little taste of what Urban sounds like. Please note - the songs are NOT new Pyramaze songs, but material from Urban's past recordings. Thanks for your attention, and now on to a statement from Urban himself.
I am very pleased to join ranks with the great guys and talented musicians of Pyramaze. I'm looking forward to the challenge of filling those big shoes and working with these guys live and in the studio. I think we have a lot to offer each other, and I hope Pyramaze fans are as excited as we are to hear us working together.
PYRAMAZE will be playing 5 shows in Denmark in November, as special guest of the mighty VOLBEAT. Michael Kammeyer says: "We are very pleased that we have been invited on to the VOLBEAT tour. They are currently the biggest and best selling heavy metal band in Denmark, and we are proud that we have been invited personally by the band to be their special guest". VOLBEAT's Michael Poulsen says:
"I was knocked over when i heard PYRAMAZE's new album, which contains one of my favourite metal singers, Matt Barlow (Iced Earth). In fact i dare to claim that this is Denmarks best metal release since Mercyful Fate. Great melodies and a singer, who can easily be placed on the heavy metal throne and wait for his crown. This band has absolutely earned respect and attention. It's cool to be able to bring some "old rats", who have been a part of the metal scene for a long time. Unfortunately Matt is no longer in PYRAMAZE, but the music stands strong enough on it's own and a new singer is currently being auditioned".
For more info on the shows, please visit our 'GIGS' section.
Dear fans and competition participants.
A winner of the fan art competition has been chosen now. It's been really-really hard, because we've had some very strong and beautiful entries. But unfortunately we've also had a few competitors who misunderstood the purpose of the competition. This was about creating a Pyramaze related artwork/drawing.... It was NOT about sending us some creations that A. Had nothing to do with Pyramaze at all or B. copying already existing Pyramaze artwork or photos and just rearranging them. So to those of you who will not find your creations in the fan-art gallery which will be up soon, now you know why ;-)
And now to the winner: The name of the winner is Kamil Pietruczynik from Poland. Congratulations!!! To see the winning artwork please look below. Unfortunately there can only be one winner, but we want to thank you all for your beautiful artwork - we are proud that Pyramaze has inspired you to come up with such beautiful creations.
Today's the 30th of May, and the fan-art competition is over. This is also the day when our new record is being unleashed in Europe - GO GRAB A COPY! There have been some really good entries in the competition, and the band is now trying to find the best one who will receive the winning prices. Thanks to the participants, and we will be back soon to announce the winner.
To celebrate the completion and release of the new album ' Immortal' we have decided to launch a competition. The rules are simple - the fan who can create the best Pyramaze related drawing/picture either hand made or produced in Photoshop or similar will win the following prices:
1 x copy of the new album (European version)
1 x copy of the digipack version containing two extra live tracks (European version)
1 x Immortal t-shirt
The competition will run until 30th of May 2008. The band will choose the best artwork and contact the winner directly. The winning artwork (and the other pieces) will be displayed in a special gallery at pyramaze.com after the competition has ended.
All pieces must be sent per e-mail to the following address, along with full name and contact information: contest@pyramaze.com
The release date for ' Immortal ' in the US has been set to the 24th of June. As posted in earlier news the release date for the European territory will be on the 30th of May. Release date for the Japanese and Russian markets will follow soon. Cheers!
Pyramaze is proud to announce the signing with Locomotive Records for the worldwide release of 'Immortal'. We had quite a few good offers, but Locomotive convinced us with their enthusiasm and their willingness to walk that extra mile for the band. 'Immortal' will be out on May 30th in Europe - release dates for the other regions will follow soon. Cheers!!
The work on our new album 'Immortal' was completed today at 11 AM in Denmark. We are extremely happy with the outcome, and we are now ready to share a few clips with all of you loyal fans who have waited patiently for a little taste of the new stuff. We therefore give you two clips of the new album, with a length that is good enough to give you a fair feel for the songs. The songs we have chosen to share with you at this point are:
Click on the titles above to listen. Below you'll find the track list for Immortal.
Not much left to say at this point other than CRANK UP THE VOLUME!!
We hope you enjoy the clips ;-)

Here's a little update on the production for our upcoming album 'Immortal'. Matt completed the vocal recording last Friday, and it all sounds really awesome. He sounds more varied than I've ever heard him before. Matt and i agreed right from the start that he should use his skills on this album to the max, and therefore you will hear a very multi-faceted vocal performance on Immortal. He has done everything right from very thick and raspy verses to epic choirs. Matt really enjoyed being able to "play" and try different things, and his enthusiasm shows on the album. For the first time we've also made use of a small male choir (three persons) which adds to the diversity. Next Monday the mixing will begin, and we look very much forward to that process. After we've mixed the album we will post sound clips of the new material here at pyramaze.com - so all of you loyal fans can get a taste of the new stuff.
In light of recent events, it is rather apparent that I need to address what's going on in my life as it pertains to Pyramaze and Iced Earth. As I'm sure you're aware, last week, my wife gave birth to our second son. We are all doing well, but it has taken a little time to get my thoughts together following that and the announcement of my return to Iced Earth. After Michael's statement, it became very clear to me that I must come to terms with the fact that I can not be in all places at all times. Obviously, there are some of you who had the same concerns. It just took me a little longer to figure that out. Well, the point is, I contacted Michael and let him know that I very much wanted to perform on the record, but that I would not be able to continue on with the band in a full time position as planned. I pointed out to Michael that I was extremely grateful to him and the rest of the guys for bringing me on board and I felt obligated to be up front with him on this. I did not want to do the record and then back out, leaving things on bad terms. Understandably, Michael was disappointed but ultimately understanding of the situation. Pyramaze is an extremely talented group of musicians, who's work is well known in the progressive metal community and will be in high demand in a short time. I am happy to say that I will be working with them, if only in a limited term. The music that Michael has written is going to make for a kick ass heavy metal record (KAHMR) and I give you my word that I will give everything that I've got to insure that. Thanks for your time...you'll hear from us soon!
Matt Barlow
Hello friends,
As you can all read in Matt's statement, the term of our cooperation has changed due to the fact that he's back in Iced Earth. When Matt approached me with his thoughts and decisions, we had the choice of A. Letting Matt go and finding another singer right away, or B. record this album as planned and with the singer for whom the music was written. Matt let us know that he was still very hooked on recording this album with us, but that he would understand and respect our final decision, should we wish to terminate our cooperation right away. After discussing this with my band brothers we came to the conclusion that we've started the journey of recording our new album together with Matt, and we will finish this album together with him. After we have completed this new album Matt is going to be concentrating solely on Iced Earth again. So this will be a onetime cooperation between Pyramaze and Matt, and this album will be one for the books. We all understand and respect Matt's decision, and there's no bad blood here at all. Matt is a genuinely nice guy with a honest heart, and we are proud to be working with him. I will also encourage you to read Matt's other statement at www.icedearth.com to give you some more insight in the situation. I guess now is a good time to reveal the cover for our new album which is called IMMORTAL. Let me also take this opportunity to wish you all a merry Christmas and a rocking new year. We thank you all for your support.
Friday 7 PM here in Denmark right now, and the first studio session has officially come to an end.
We still need to finish some guitar solos and the bass parts, but this will be done separately within the next couple of weeks :-) It's been hard but also fun. We've had some long days, especially Wednesday when we worked for 15 hours straight.
I've been in song writing mode basically since May, and today was the day when it finally all came together and the last melody pieces where added before we could listen to the songs in their entirety. We are more than happy with the outcome, and I'm sure that fans of EPIC heavy metal will love this new Pyramaze album. We are all looking very much forward to hearing Matt's incredible vocals on these songs, and I'm sure you are equally excited about that part ;-)
Next we will prepare a rough mix for Matt, so he can finally hear the new songs. After Matt has received that rough mix, we will prepare a Pro Tools mix for Jim Morris who will assist Matt with recording the vocals in Tampa, Florida, USA.
Next week I will commence with the writing of the lyrics. Getting those finished should take about one and a half month. They will be sent to Matt one at a time as they get completed, and then it's up to Matt to work on the vocal melodies until he enters the studio in February 2008. The final mix and mastering of the album will happen in March 2008, and then the waiting is almost over ;-)
That's it for now people - I hope you've enjoyed following our recording process during the last two weeks. Stay metal and PLAY IT LOUD!
Yes - we're still in the studio, and we have increased our efficiency a great deal since the last time I wrote a message. Last week we realized that our time table was unrealistic. It looked bad when it came to keeping our 10-days deadline for the instruments, and we had to figure out something. Fortunately our drummer and technical wizard Morten introduced us to "studio 2". Yes, indeed within two days Morten gathered equipment and software to set up a second Pro-Tools studio where we are now tracking the keyboards while I keep on tracking rhythm and theme guitars in Studio 1. Suddenly everything looks good again and we are pretty much back on track.
The recording of the guitars is running very well and fluidly for me right now. I should be able to finish the rhythms tomorrow morning. Once the rhythms are out of the way it's on to record the themes and the acoustics. I guess I'll need a day for those parts.
Jonah was able to complete the key-tracks for two songs during Monday and Tuesday. It sounds very epic to say the least. Jonah does not look too epic though, 'cause he's been drinking like a Danish Viking all week-end ha-ha! Have you ever seen a zombie play the keys?? Well - now I have ha-ha! :-)
Toke and Niels are still waiting to play their parts, but in the meantime they lend us their ears, and help us listen for small flaws or weird clips in the tracks. Tomorrow we will all be doing a long shift and record for 14 hours or so. This should be enough to make our deadline waterproof.
My wife and daughter stopped by in the studio the other day with cake and fruit. The timing was perfect, 'cause we really needed some sugar at that point. When one is all tied up in recording ones parts and concentrating big time, then eating tends to be forgotten. Not good in the long run ;-)
Anyways, time for me to find some food in the kitchen.
Come back again later this week for the last update on the instruments recording session.
8 PM here in Denmark, and day four in the studio is over. Today we finished recording the drums. We all think that the drum tracks turned out awesome, and finally Morten can relax a bit and let the rest of us work. So - time for the rhythm guitars, which means it's my turn to sweat. Well, highly motivated I plugged in my guitar and.... the first 20 minutes sounded like shit!! ha-ha. I had a hard time adjusting to the tempo of the song that we started out with. My "natural" rhythm tempo is always faster than how I have to play the actual songs when it comes to playing the technical PM galloping parts. So, after giving myself psychic ass kicks for a few minutes we decided to go to lunch instead. That turned out to be a good decision, because after lunch (and some fresh air) it started running much better.
We had some visitors in the studio today. My brother Martin stopped by to listen for a few hours, and Morten's wife and son (Lotte and Andreas) stopped by to say hello too. Well, Morten's son might just as well get used to being in a studio from an early age - right!? ;-) I'm sure he'll play the drums before he turns 2 ha-ha!
Anyways, I spent the afternoon working on the first song together with producer Triish, while the others ran in and out like dogs in mating season. I think we have all been hit by the studio fever already. It can get quite boring just waiting and listening while another band member records his parts, but that's just the way it is ;-) At 4 PM the rhythms for the first song was finished, and we called it a day.
That's it for now, check out the studio diary again next week.
So, finally the first day of our recording session has come and gone. It's now 8.30 PM here in Denmark, and I'm sitting in front of my computer to write you a few words about this third Pyramaze production.
Today was mainly about getting the drums set up, and getting the right sound out of them. This always takes a lot of time to do, and so we did not get to the first song until about 1 PM. Morten has bought himself a brand new drum kit, and this is the first time it's being used for a studio recording. The new kit sounds incredible, and Morten plays it awesome and super tight
as always.
The tracking of the instruments takes place in ALU-Studio in Haderslev. Our tracking producer is 'Triish', who's been our sound guy on numerous live occasions. Only Morten, 'Trish' and myself were in the studio today, since this is only about tracking the drums for now. Niels is home in Haderslev celebrating his birthday, Toke and Jonah are in Aarhus at Toke's place because Toke had to take care of some stuff before the studio, and Matt is back home in Delaware, waiting anxiously for us to send him some finished tracks ;-)
From tomorrow everyone will be in the studio, except for Matt, who will be recording the vocals in the USA once we have finished recording all the instruments here in Denmark.
As mentioned earlier we did not get started on the first song until 1 PM. After a few adjustments we got the ball rolling, and had the drum tracks for "song 1" completely finished before we called it a day at 3.45 PM. My only job today was to provide a bit of guitar for Morten to play along with, but other than that, today and the next day or two is all about getting the drum tracks completed.
That's it for now folks. Enjoy the pics, and please come back again in a few days for the next update. Until then - PLAY IT LOUD.
Pyramaze will enter the studio on October 1st in Haderslev, Denmark to commence the recording of the successor to 'Legend of the Bone Carver'. The band is on fire, and ready to create another epic piece of metal-art. You can follow the recording progress via the 'Studio diary' here on www.pyramaze.com!
Ever wanted to be the journalist and not just the reader?
Ever wondered how Michael spends his spare time, how Matt keeps his voice in such great shape or what the secret is behind Morten's unique drumming technique?
Or maybe you just want to know what shampoo Jonah uses, if Toke has a girlfriend or how many beers Niels can drink in one hour?
Now is the time to ask your questions directly to the band members. From Thursday the 14th of June the whole band will be available on the Pyramaze forum for questions asked directly to them. There will be six threads - one for each member. The threads will be open for three days, and each member will personally answer as many questions as possible every day.
All you have to do it follow this link - but remember, the threads don't open for entries until Thursday the 14th of June.
I'm very happy to finally announce our new singer.
Matthew Barlow (former vocalist of the American metal band Iced Earth) will be taking over the job as Pyramaze vocalist. I've been in dialogue with Matt about his comeback for a few months now, and after we've been getting to know each other better and doing a few test demos where Matt has re-recorded a couple of our old songs, we've come to the conclusion that we are a perfect match. I've always regarded Matt as one of the very best voices in metal, and i was (as any other fan of his incredible voice) saddened by his departure from the metal scene a few years ago. Therefore I'm proud to say that Matt is back, stronger than ever, and from now on officially a part of the Pyramaze Fellowship. We are currently in a song-writing mode, and we expect to enter the studio early 2008 with Matt behind the mic. I hope and believe that old as well as new fans will welcome Matt into the Pyramaze line-up. I now leave you with these great news, and with Matt's statement below.
Cheers!
M. Kammeyer / Pyramaze
Statement from Matthew Barlow:
Brothers and sisters... The last time I made a statement to the metal community it was one of sorrow but certainly not one of regret. There are people, things and experiences - once not thought possible - that I have attained in the last several years. It's an extension of friends and family that has truly made my life whole, and one that I would not jeopardize for fame and glory.
That thought in mind, I was posed an interesting proposition by a true talent in heavy metal. Honestly, I had not heard a lot about Pyramaze, when I received an e-mail from Michael. After our initial correspondence I began to realize that this was a guy that really had his head in the right place - a musician who was in music for the music. Michael spoke to me of his band - a bunch of guys who want to put out solid music but would not sacrifice their souls to attain greatness. This is by no means a slam on I.E. or any of the great musicians I have worked with in the past. It simply means that the music industry can suck you in, chew you up, and spit you out if you don't keep firmly planted on the ground. Pyramaze are working class metal heads with something to prove! Metal is what they live for but it is not their livelihood.
Needless to say, I was instantly intrigued by Michael's delivery. Especially considering the nature of my career choice of late. I wondered if Michael had really thought the courting process through. I'm sure that there are some people that never really understood my reasons for leaving the industry and certainly don't like who or what i represent in my current vocation. There is also the fact that Pyramaze has been rather stereotyped as a prog-metal act and I as Satan / Paul Stanley. What kind of crazy mixed up world is this????
Well... The way I see it... I'm in a point in my life, where I love what I do for a living and for the first time, I can support myself and my family doing it. Now for the other great thing... That's how this band thinks. There is no expectation of co-signing (under the name Mephistopheles) in order to have your record sell. The record will sell if the music is great. The music will be great, because the guys doing it, want to do it... For all the right reasons. Pyramaze has proven that!
I sense hesitation... And rightly so... After all, there are a lot of I.E. fans out there that still just don't get it. I would imagine that there are also Pyramaze fans that love what Mr. King did for this band. Hell, I love what he did for this band! I think that the guy is a true talent and feel the same about Tim Owens (that's Ripper to you!). I also feel, that in the same way I.E. fans have taken Tim into the fold, I too can find a place within the Pyramaze family. I would venture to say that Pyramaze, already unique and uncompromising, will not be placed inside of a prog-metal box once the sparks start flying.
I am really looking forward to working with Michael and the guys!!! I also look forward to hearing feedback from the brethren and sisterhood of metal.
Up from the ashes, back from the depths, when the voices have risen, fire becomes flesh!
To our friends, fans and business partners.
Christmas and new year is just around the corner, and we Pyramazians look back at a very successful and busy year. We've played some awesome concerts, met exciting
people and visited new beautiful places. We would like to thank you all for your support and friendship and wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Be prepared for great news from the Pyramaze camp in the early months of 2007...
All the best
Michael, Morten, Niels, Jonah and Toke
Due to personal and professional reasons occurred over the past couple of months we have decided to part ways with vocalist Lance King.
We would like to thanks Lance for the time he was a part of the band, and his great performance on our 2 albums as well as on our gigs. We wish him the best of luck for the future.
This split might come as a shock to our fans, but be assured that Pyramaze is very much alive and well. In fact the song writing for our third album has already begun, and as always Michael Kammeyer is responsible for the songwriting. As you may remember, the music was all recorded for the first disc, before Lance was brought in to deliver his vocals, so nothing will really change in the band except who is going to be behind the microphone. Pyramaze will stay Pyramaze, and the third album will slay you all!
Pyramaze is currently communicating with a vocalist who is very interested in being a part of the Pyramaze
line up, and should this work out you are all in for a HUGE surprise!
We all view this as a possibility for an even better future for the band, rather than a step down. We realize that Lance will be a hard man to replace, but we're very confident in our music and our team-spirit.
Let's finally state that we're not happy with the way this parting-of-ways was communicated out. When we informed Lance that we had to let him go he asked for us to not send out any statement until he had a chance to comment on it. So we were waiting for his reply when he himself made a public statement. This is not the way to do it, and it really saddens us to have to go out at this stage with our own press release.
Nevertheless, we are ready to face the future and we're very much looking forward to what's in store for Pyramaze.
On behalf of the band,
Michael Kammeyer / PYRAMAZE and Claus Jensen / Intromental Management
The live section of our gallery (pix folder) has been updated BIG TIME!
Lots of new pics from 9 of our concerts. You can see them individually or
chose the 'slideshow' function. Enjoy these great shots of Pyramaze in action!
PS: Lots of great photographers have been kind enough to send us pics they've taken from the Pyra-concerts.
A few of you asked to be credited once these pics went online, and we had every intention of doing so.
However we ended up with over 300 pics in one big folder, and sorting out who asked to be credited,
and who didn't turned out to be a nightmare! Therefore some of you who have sent us pics, might not find your
names attached to the shots. We apologize for this, and hope that you will forgive us.
Should you find it ABSOLUTELY necessary to have your name attached to the pics, then please drop us an e-mail
with the 'number' of the pic, and we'll try to include it in the next update.
No updates since July - wow, time just flies! We've had some great concerts in Germany, UK and the USA since our last update. Thanks a lot to all our fans for being there and supporting us - it's highly appreciated. We've got lots of new live pics and other stuff for the site, but we've recently changed our webmaster, and letting the maintenance of a homepage change hands always takes a bit of time. Anyways - our homepage will undergo some technical updates and minor layout changes during the next couple of months. Stay tuned to check it out!

Even more sweet stuff will be added over the next couple of weeks, so be sure to stop by every now and then. Also feel free to write us some lines in the Pyramaze guestbook. On behalf of the entire Pyramaze Fellowship - WELCOME!
All the best,
Michael Kammeyer
We're pleased to announce that our record labels all over the world has decided on a common release schedule.
In Japan "King Records" will release the album on 22nd of February 2006. "Melodic Heaven" will release it in the rest of Asia on the same day. In France "Replica Records" will put it out in stores on February 27th, as will "Massacre Records" in the rest of Europe. Since the standard release dates in USA are Tuesdays, "Nightmare Records" will put it out the day after, February 28th 2006.
As you can see from the list above, we've changed labels in certain places. In Japan we're no longer signed to Toshiba/EMI, but have instead inked a deal with King Records. We'd especially like to thank our Japanese publisher, Mr. Koh Sakai at Burrn! Music, for his valuable help in signing with King Records.
In Europe, Replica Records have this time decided only to concentrate on France, thus leaving the rest of Europe for larger distribution / licensing through Massacre Records.
All of this should make it much easier to get hold of Pyramaze albums, no matter where you live. We're really happy about this, and we're looking forward to getting "Legend Of The Bone Carver" out in stores, and hear the feedback from fans and media.
